It consists of a disconnecting trip in the heart of the berber country. You will leave Marrakech (at around 9.30 a.m) from your accommodation, via the Bab Ighlil (“bab” means “door”) towards the Ourika driving through the Haouz plain. Thirty kilometers later, you will discover a village called “Jemaa de Ghmat” (pronounce Rmat), well-known for its typical souk taking place in the old mausoleum every Friday. There is another souk on mondays five kilometers from there. The market is thus in an enclosed area. Many donkeys are penned near the river bank.

You will then depart for the valley, with successive exceptional views as well as villages with pise (mud-brick) houses. Below you, the Ourika wadi snakes around a mosaic of fields and orchards. After driving past Khemis, you will depart for the Aghbalou village, which is very authentic and take the road for Oukaïmeden culminating at 2,650m. Once there, a secondary road starts (formerly berber trail) to oscillate between desert and green vegetation with the sight on the snowy summits of the High Atlas during winter. You will arrive in the surroundings of Asni berber village around lunchtime. The lunch is possible at local people’s homes. It’s a good experience with a delicious and organic food on the spot produced and it is the way of helping a family!

After that, you will depart for the Kik plateau by trail and by tarred path where small villages follow each other which are filled with children for the majority in charge of a goats’ herd. During springtime, infinite wheat fields with poppies here and there make the landscape look like an impressionist painting. The arrival at the plateau is just stunning since the Lalla Takerkoust dam is downhill. The dam has its own artificial lake, a gigantic seven kilometer-long stretch of water with green and blue gleams depending on the light. It makes the area cool and quiet at the gates of the red town. The dam, built during the protectorate era, is also very impressive with its 350 meters long and 60 meters high.

Return to Marrakech in 30 mn (40 km away) via Tameslot.

*Little variant : you can have lunch near Asni, on the Amizmiz road, in the restaurant whith swimming-pool in the heart of an age-old olive grove. Return to Marrakech by way of the Kik plateau and Lalla Takerkoust lake.
